It's been said that Argentina has two national anthems -- the official hymn and the Tango. Forget the mannered ballroom dancing image, Tango, as one explains, is real roots music-- sometimes sleazy, sometimes elegant, but always sensuous, rhythmic and passionate. It is the vertical expression of a horizontal desire! Since the 18th century Tango had travelled from Buenos Aires to Paris and to the world, including Asia many years back. In Malaysia the Tango roots is continued by a small community of local Tango enthusiasts. Occasionally, international Tango maestros were invited to KL to conduct workshops and to perform in various functions. Tango, acknowledged by its masculinity, possesses a passionate character. The strong, sharp and precise silent steps, coupled with the expression of feelings makes Tango a soulful dance.
